Chan School of Public Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Food, Nutrition, Diet<br \/>\nUp to five cups of coffee a day may benefit heart <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=4600\" title=\"The Mental Health Cost of Harsh Immigration Policy - USCRI\">health<\/a><figcaption>Mykola Sosiukin \/ iStock<\/figcaption><p><a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=4547\" title=\"Vomiting virus is spreading across most of the U.S.\">Most<\/a> adults can safely consume up to 400 mg of caffeine each day\u2014the amount found in up to five eight-ounce cups of coffee\u2014and doing so may have cardiovascular benefits, according to a July 20 American Heart Association (AHA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahajournals.org\/doi\/10.1161\/CIR.0000000000001454\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> published in Circulation. Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health\u2019s Frank Hu was vice chair and a co-author of the statement, which outlined the current body of knowledge on caffeine and heart health and where more research is needed.<\/p>\n<p>Moderate caffeine consumption appears to be linked in some individuals to a lower risk of several cardiovascular conditions, including heart failure, heart <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=4587\" title=\"How did Bryan Johnson end up with an autoimmune disease?\">disease<\/a>, and stroke, according to the authors. However, they found that regularly consuming higher amounts of caffeine, such as the doses found in energy drinks, may increase the risk of high blood pressure and irregular heart rhythm<\/p>\n<p>The authors noted that coffee is the most-studied  due to other compounds in coffee<\/p>\n<p>The healthiest way to drink coffee, according to the statement, is to brew it with paper filters or use instant\u2014drinking unfiltered filtered coffee such as espresso is associated with higher levels of \u201cbad\u201d cholesterol\u2014and avoid adding creamers, sugar, or flavored syrups<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have made tremendous progress in understanding the health effects of caffeine, but there is still a lot to learn,\u201d Hu, Fredrick J. Stare Professor of Nutrition and Epidemiology and chair of the Department of Nutrition, said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vOZ81CfZA-4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AHA video<\/a>.
