Health<\/a> Cost of Harsh Immigration Policy – USCRI”>Health<\/a>“>Health<\/a> and wellness are the focus of Snuneymuxw Days 2026 and there will be a basketball tournament.
\n (News Bulletin file photo)<\/p>\nHealth and wellness will be the focus of Snuneymuxw First Nation\u2019s three-day celebration of land, water and community this weekend<\/p>\n
Snuneymuxw Days begins Friday, July 24 and goes until Sunday, July 26. A popular draw is the canoe races, described in a press release by Chief Mike Wyse as integral to Snuneymuxw culture since early days<\/p>\n
Paddlers from the United States (Washington state) are expected to take part, as well as from Snuneymuxw\u2019s Island Brave Canoe Club, who have captured three-consecutive Canadian championships and are raising money to take part in the Moloka\u02bbi Hoe World Championship in October, the press release stated<\/p>\n
Paddlers will race in the waters off Shoreline Drive and Kate Good, Snuneymuxw councillor and event director, told the News Bulletin there will be races for both young and old<\/p>\n
\u201cFriday is designated specifically for the kids, so there\u2019s nothing but kids races on Friday, and then we move into the kids and adult races on Saturday and Sunday,\u201d she said<\/p>\n
A three-day basketball tournament will again take place and new for this year, a soccer tournament featuring Indigenous and non-Indigenous teams There will also be a feast on Friday night at the Snuneymuxw long house at 2021 Long House Rd. in Cedar with a seafood spread and will be followed by a jam, said Good, with \u201csinging and dancing and drums and regalia.\u201d<\/p>\n
There will be a marketplace with numerous vendors selling crafts and goods, and on Saturday there will be a kids\u2019 zone area with bouncy castles and face painting<\/p>\n
Good said over 2,000 people attended the 2025 event<\/p>\n
Snuneymuxw Days events begin at 12 p.m. and go until 9 p.m. on July 24. On July 25, activities take place between 8:30 a.m. and 12 a.m. and from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July 26<\/p>\n
