(WDBJ) &#8211; Finding a doctor can feel like an uphill battle, and for many families, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=4956\" title=\"The high cost of birth: New Mexico families travel farther for care\">high cost<\/a> of health care means putting off crucial medical needs<\/p>\n<p>But Perfecting Unity Church in Roanoke helped neighbors get the care they need, completely free of charge<\/p>\n<p>The church held its Family Health and <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=4972\" title=\"WVU Medicine hosts Health and Wellness Day\">Wellness<\/a> Day Saturday. It included free school physicals, vaccinations, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=4935\" title=\"High Blood Pressure in Pregnant Women Is Rising Across the Country\">blood pressure<\/a> screenings. Attendees also learned how to balance healthy meals, had fun line dancing, and participated in giveaways<\/p>\n<p>Executive Administrator Meschelle Bibby said a severe health disparity in the area is what drove them to host the event<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA study published by Carilion Roanoke Memorial stated that the health outcomes in 24017 were disproportionate compared to the rest of the city. In fact, the life expectancy for the area is 68 years compared to 82 years for the rest of the city of Roanoke. With that level of disparity, we decided we wanted to put on an event for the community to help them obtain healthier outcomes,\u201d said Bibby.<\/p>\n<p>Bibby adds that with the uninsured population on the rise, these free services can truly be lifesaving<\/p>\n<p>Perfecting Unity Church thanks all of the health partners that helped make the event a success<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WDBJ.
