Hayden Panettiere, star of \u201cHeroes,\u201d \u201cNashville\u201d and \u201cBring It On: All or Nothing,\u201d has died at 36, her father announced on Sunday, Aug. 16<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,\u201d his statement, shared by Panettiere\u2019s representatives, reads. \u201cShe was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her \u2014 and to the millions who watched her onscreen.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her ex-fianc\u00e9, Wladimir Klitschko, with whom she shared a daughter, Kaya, 11, also posted a tribute<\/p>\n
\u201cOur family is going through a time of profound shock and grief,\u201d Klitschko wrote in part<\/a>. \u201cThe announcement of Hayden\u2019s tragic death saddens me deeply. She left this world far too soon. Hayden was, although no longer my partner, an important part of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n Panettiere would have turned 37 on Friday<\/p>\n No cause or manner of death has yet been shared for the actor. Investigations are ongoing<\/p>\n She was pronounced dead on Sunday afternoon after emergency personnel in Greenville, South Carolina, responded to a call at a home about an \u201cunresponsive female\u201d and provided medical assistance, according to the local police<\/p>\n The woman, who was later identified as Panettiere, was in cardiac arrest, meaning her heart had stopped beating, when she was found. She was not able to be resuscitated even with advanced life support measures. She had been staying at the residence temporarily, Greenville County Coroner\u2019s Office said in a statement<\/p>\n \u201cAt autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies. This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time,\u201d the statement concluded<\/p>\n So far, there are \u201cno signs of foul play\u201d or \u201csuspicious circumstances,\u201d the police have said<\/p>\n The \u201cRemember the Titans\u201d star had long been candid about her health<\/a> struggles. On multiple occasions, she opened up about her alcohol and drug use, postpartum depression, and the toll the 2023 death of her brother, Jansen Panettiere, had on her<\/p>\n Here\u2019s what she shared about her health leading up to her death<\/p>\n As a young child, Panettiere played characters who overcame defeat, loss and tragedy. Because of the praise she received for her emotional performances, she said she found her roles blurring with real life. \u201cSubconsciously, I began to associate catastrophe with adoration; people loved me because make-believe bad things happened to me,\u201d Panettiere wrote in memoir, \u201cThis Is Me: A Reckoning,\u201d published in May 2026.<\/p>\n \u201cReality merged with my imagination and burrowed into my core memories, where all my shame and trauma lived. Is it any wonder why I\u2019ve faced so many real struggles in my life?\u201d<\/p>\n Other traumas she said she faced in her memoir included being asked to get in bed with an older celebrity when she was 19 years old. She wrote that she felt like she was being used as a \u201ccall girl. I deserved better than that, by a lot. I needed to be with sane, normal people who didn\u2019t care so much about fame, parties, and press and never, ever used people for their own benefit or ends.\u201d<\/p>\n She also described moments when a television executive kissed her on the lips, and when an Oscar-winning actor and director exposed himself to her at a party<\/p>\n She was 15 the first time someone offered her \u201chappy pills\u201d before walking a red carpet. Panettiere first described the moment in a 2022 interview, saying the drugs made her \u201cpeppy\u201d while talking to the press. \u201cI had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction,\u201d she said at the time<\/p>\n She maintained her professionalism when she was on set, filming the moment\u2019s hit show or film, but turned to substances once the cameras were off, calling it \u201cout of control.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd as I got older, the drugs and alcohol became something I almost couldn\u2019t live without.\u201d<\/p>\n
