{"id":6579,"date":"2026-09-11T13:19:50","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T13:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6579"},"modified":"2026-09-11T13:19:51","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T13:19:51","slug":"earlier-more-severe-diabetes-in-women-who-develop-it-in-pregnancy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6579","title":{"rendered":"Earlier, more severe diabetes in women who develop it in pregnancy"},"content":{"rendered":"<figcaption>Gestational diabetes, cases where the condition arrives during <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6560\" title=\"Billericay actor challenges pregnancy stereotypes in new film\">pregnancy<\/a>, affects approximately 14% of pregnancies worldwide \u2013 or about one in seven mothers \u2013 with rates continuing to rise globally. \u2014 dpa<\/figcaption><p>Cases of diabetes develop earlier and are more severe in women who had the condition while pregnant, a study has suggested<\/p>\n<p>The findings highlight the importance of &#8220;enhanced monitoring\u201d for women with gestational diabetes (GD)<\/p>\n<p>GD happens when women cannot produce enough insulin while pregnant, leading to high blood sugar<\/p>\n<p>According to global <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6576\" title=\"Montgomery County To Host Free Health And Wellness\">health<\/a> estimates from the World Health Organization and the Inter<a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6570\" title=\"Balochistan Government and National AI Hub Partner on AI-Driven Healthcare\">national<\/a> Diabetes Federation, GD affects approximately 14% of pregnancies worldwide\u00a0\u2013\u00a0or about one in seven mothers\u00a0\u2013 with rates continuing to rise globally<\/p>\n<p>While the condition usually disappears after giving birth, patients face a higher risk of going on to develop type 2 diabetes<\/p>\n<p>The study, led by experts in Denmark, looked at 173 women with previous GD and 2,692 who did not have the condition<\/p>\n<p>The analysis found that women diagnosed with GD developed type 2 diabetes almost 13 years earlier on average when compared with women who did not have the condition while pregnant<\/p>\n<p>Around four in 10 patients with previous GD were under the age of 40 when they developed type 2 diabetes<\/p>\n<p>They were twice as likely to require insulin treatment within two years of diagnosis<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Women with a history of gestational diabetes in pregnancy are not only at substantially increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life, but also tend to experience disease onset more than a decade earlier compared to women without prior gestational diabetes,&#8221;\u00a0the researchers said<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In addition, these women more frequently require insulin therapy at the time of diabetes diagnosis.
