{"id":6609,"date":"2026-09-12T13:36:25","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T13:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6609"},"modified":"2026-09-12T13:36:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T13:36:26","slug":"spartanburg-regional-healthcare-system-receives-duke-endowment-grant-to-support-maternal-and-infant-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6609","title":{"rendered":"Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System receives Duke Endowment grant to support maternal and infant health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System receives Duke Endowment grant to support maternal and infant health<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/maternal-grant_discoverhealth.png.webp\" alt=\"maternal-grant_discoverhealth.png\"><\/p>\n<h2>Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System receives Duke Endowment grant to support maternal and infant health<\/h2>\n<p>Spartanburg Regional\u00a0Healthcare System\u00a0has\u00a0been awarded\u00a0nearly $1.6\u00a0million\u00a0from The Duke Endowment\u00a0to\u00a0participate in the\u00a0Maternal Infant Health (MIH)\u00a0Carolinas\u00a0initiative, a multi-year effort to improve maternal and infant health outcomes across North\u00a0Carolina\u00a0and South Carolina,\u00a0strengthening\u00a0care coordination and advancing\u00a0health equity<\/p>\n<p>H.E.A.R. (Healing, Equity, Advocacy, and Respect) 4 Mamas and Babies (H4MAB)\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0text-\u00a0and phone-based screening and referral program\u00a0that was\u00a0developed\u00a0by\u00a0The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC)\u00a0to identify medical, behavioral health and social needs early in pregnancy and throughout the postpartum year. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The model proactively connects participants to timely,\u00a0trusted services and has demonstrated significant improvements in the detection and treatment of &lt;a href=&quot;https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6596&quot; title=&quot;Why <a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6582\" title=\"Northampton mental health hospital has enough staff &apos;to be safe&apos;\">Mental Health<\/a> In Pakistan Is A Tax Policy Issue&#8221;&gt;mental health<\/a> conditions, including\u00a0maternal depression and anxiety\u00a0as well as\u00a0substance use disorders, chronic health conditions, intimate partner violence and unmet social determinants of health needs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Duke Endowment&#8217;s\u00a0investment will\u00a0support\u00a0the\u00a0awarded\u00a0sites\u00a0in\u00a0planning and implementing\u00a0H4MAB. This\u00a0includes participation in a peer learning community\u00a0and access\u00a0to\u00a0a\u00a0comprehensive\u00a0technical Assistance and Training Center led by\u00a0MUSC\u00a0in collaboration with the University of North Carolina\u00a0at\u00a0Chapel Hill. The\u00a0center\u00a0provides training,\u00a0technology,\u00a0cross-site\u00a0evaluation\u00a0and\u00a0data resources\u00a0along with\u00a0ongoing technical\u00a0assistance\u00a0to strengthen implementation.\u00a0It\u00a0will\u00a0also collaborate with state agencies, Medicaid\u00a0programs\u00a0and private payers to explore long-term reimbursement pathways for program sustainability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spartanburg Regional\u00a0is among\u00a0five\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lumeamara.online\/?p=6599\" title=\"Beacon Health System\u2019s B.A.B.E program helps support new parents | AHA\">health systems<\/a>\u00a0The Duke Endowment\u00a0selected to form a network aimed at\u00a0mitigating\u00a0risk factors that lead to poor\u00a0maternal and infant health outcomes\u00a0while ensuring families across\u00a0the\u00a0Carolinas\u00a0receive the\u00a0timely\u00a0support\u00a0they need to thrive.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spartanburg Regional will\u00a0collaborate\u00a0with local\u00a0healthcare\u00a0providers, public health\u00a0agencies\u00a0and community-based organizations to share information about\u00a0the new program\u00a0and\u00a0connect families with\u00a0medical, behavioral health, social\u00a0support\u00a0and peer support resources.\u00a0Spartanburg Regional will also\u00a0convene\u00a0a\u00a0community\u00a0advisory\u00a0board to provide feedback,\u00a0identify\u00a0resource\u00a0gaps\u00a0and ensure that implementation reflects local context and\u00a0community\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur aim is to work together to replicate and scale this program in hopes of improving health outcomes for more women and infants across the Carolinas,\u201d\u00a0said Jay Kennedy, senior program officer with The Duke Endowment\u2019s Health Care program area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Staci Gallman, manager of Women and Children Services for Spartanburg Regional, shared how this funding will have a direct impact on mothers and their families.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery mother and baby\u00a0deserves\u00a0access to the support and resources needed for a healthy start,&#8221; Gallman said.\u00a0\u201cThis funding will help us\u00a0identify\u00a0needs earlier, strengthen care coordination and connect families with services that support their health and well-being throughout pregnancy and the postpartum year.
