A planned regional health and wellness campus in Newark has received a $2 million naming rights commitment from ESL Federal Credit Union

The facility will be known as the ESL Health and Wellness Campus under a 25-year agreement running through 2052. The project is being developed by the Village of Newark, the Alex Eligh Community Center and Capstone Real Estate Development as part of a broader revitalization effort intended to benefit residents across Wayne County

The estimated $22 million campus will be constructed between Van Buren and Siegrist streets. Two buildings are currently planned

The first, expected to be completed in 2027, will house Lattimore Physical Therapy

A second building, anticipated to open in 2028, will become the new home of the Alex Eligh Community Center. Plans call for the facility to include:

    • A six-lane indoor track and field event space
    • An indoor turf field for soccer, lacrosse and other sports
    • Courts for basketball, volleyball and pickleball
    • Fitness equipment
    • Multipurpose rooms for senior wellness, youth programs and community events
    • Dedicated space for school-age child care and after-school programs

“For more than 15 years, ESL has been proud to serve the people of Newark, and the naming of the ESL Health and Wellness Campus reflects our long-term commitment to this community,” ESL President and CEO Tom Rogers said. “We also see this investment as a support for local economic activity, job creation, and Newark’s future as a vibrant place to live, work, and do business.”

Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor said ESL’s sponsorship brings the project “a huge step closer to completion.”

“The ESL Health and Wellness Campus will provide a regional, accessible, year-round opportunity for everyone in Newark and beyond,” Taylor said

New York state has committed $3.34 million in Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding to the project. Organizers are continuing to seek additional capital funding to complete the campus

The Alex Eligh Community Center has served Newark and the surrounding area since 1951. It currently operates at 303 East Avenue and provides recreational, educational and social programs for children, families and seniors
