The Family Hub marked 10 years of supporting family wellness across the Central Okanagan Thursday

KCR Community Ree ago as a new model bringing child and family service providers together under one roof

“When we opened the Hub 10 years ago, it was a new model for supporting family wellness that strategically aligned child and family service providers to collaboratively deliver services to families in a welcoming and safe space,” said Peter Boyd, a director with Kelowna Community Re

The Hub’s model focuses on early, or “upstream,” support for children under 12 and their caregivers, built around four pillars: family navigation, drop-in playtime, educational workshops, and baby and life essentials

“Research informed the creation of the Hub and it was life experiences and meeting families where they were at, that allowed the Family Hub to blossom

“The stats clearly show that the Hub fulfills its mission to truly meet families’ most critical and emergent needs through innovative programing, adaptive services and community collaboration,” Katelin Mitchell, executive director of KCR Community Re

The program has seen a 19 per cent increase in families accessing its services over the past year, providing 1,026 referrals, 267 workshops, 354 drop-in play sessions, 1,207 food hampers and 2,714 baby and life essential items
