FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) Pans were sizzling and vegetables were flying as young student chefs faced off in a <a href="https://lumeamara.online/?p=5349" title="Balochistan, MNCH ink MoU to strengthen child health services”>healthy stir-fry cook-off at the Family Wellness center in Fargo

Fourth- and fifth-graders competed in the Family Wellness Kids Healthy Cooking Competition, racing the clock to create their best stir-fry dish in 45 minutes for a panel of local judges. The event is part of Family Wellness’ broader effort to teach elementary-age students nutrition basics and introductory cooking skills

“We do healthy cooking in the classroom throughout the fall,” said Amanda Linn, culinary education coordinator for Family Wellness. “We work with 4th and 5th graders teaching them nutrition basics and introductory cooking skills, so this is kind of an opportunity for them to show that off.”

Judges said they were impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and their use of fresh ingredients such as vegetables, garlic and ginger. Some competitors added personal twists, including chow mein noodles inspired by a grandmother’s recipe and chili crisp oil for extra heat

Organizers say the goal goes beyond naming a winner. They hope the competition helps kids feel more independent in the kitchen, build confidence and form healthy eating habits they can take home to their families

“A lot of our eating habits are really formative during this age,” Linn said. “They’re getting more independent in the kitchen, learning base skills so they can make a snack for themselves, feel more confident with their balanced eating choices and start growing some of that confidence in food.”
